From Chaos to Clarity: How Routines Helped Me Build My Business

A realistic guide for women juggling everything — and still making room for their dreams.

But when you’re working, studying, raising children, managing a household, and sometimes just trying to breathe, there isn’t much of either left.

When I first started dreaming about launching my own business — a purpose-driven brand that could provide not just income, but impact — I didn’t think structure was the key. I thought passion was. I thought if I just worked hard enough, stayed up late enough, Googled enough, I could make it happen.

But what really happened?

I remember sitting on my living room floor, surrounded by notebooks, podcasts playing in the background, a webinar half-watched on my screen, and my toddler asking me if dinner was ready. It wasn’t.

I was in full-blown hustle mode — learning everything about branding, marketing, setting up funnels, content creation, offers, social media — all while being a mum, student, wife, carer, and working part-time.

I wasn’t launching a business. I was drowning in the idea of one.

I thought I had to be “on” 24/7 to be taken seriously. That’s what the internet made it look like, right?

But every night, I was going to bed with more questions than answers and a deep pit of guilt in my stomach. I wasn’t showing up fully for anyone — not my kids, not my work, and certainly not myself.

I didn’t have a business plan.
I didn’t have routines.
I had chaos.

One night, after yet another long scroll through an online business community where everyone else seemed to be “crushing it,” I closed my laptop and cried.

I remember whispering out loud, “There has to be a better way.”

And slowly, there was.

I realised I didn’t need more time — I needed a system.

So I made a radical decision:

I would stop trying to build my business every day, and instead focus on building it intentionally — on my own terms.

That’s when routines came in.

I decided that, for now, I would dedicate just one day a week to my business — Saturday mornings. That was it.

Not all day. Just 2–3 focused hours.

I created a non-negotiable weekly routine:

  • Wake up early before the kids
  • Brew a strong coffee
  • Open my notebook and laptop
  • Work on one core business task: planning content, learning a new tool, mapping an offer, and building my brand

No distractions. No multitasking. No guilt.

The rest of the week?
I showed up fully for work. I studied. I cared for my family.
And when thoughts about the business popped up midweek, I jotted them down, knowing they had their place on Saturday.

Eventually, that one day became every other Saturday.
Then, it became a few hours on a Friday when I started getting more efficient.
Soon, I had systems and templates that took 30 minutes instead of three hours.

I wasn’t just “building a business.”
I was building confidence, momentum, and clarity — without sacrificing my life.

Here’s what no one tells you:

It’s not about how much time you have — it’s about how clearly you use the time you do have.

Structured routines:

  • Help reduce decision fatigue
  • Give your brain space to focus
  • Help you track progress
  • Reduce burnout
  • Build trust in yourself
  • And most importantly… keep your dreams alive even when life gets hard

I no longer chase “unrealistic expectations”.
Instead, I build rhythms that support my capacity, my family, and my dreams in a Balanced way.

If you’re a woman trying to:

  • Start a business
  • Raise a family
  • Work or study
  • Care for someone
  • Stay grounded and healthy

Then please know: You are not behind. You are not lazy. You are not doing it wrong.

You’re just doing it all, and that requires a different approach.

It’s not about speed. It’s about strategy.
And strategy starts with structure.
